The first thing we do when you decide to use our services is to undertake keyword research to find the best keywords to aim to get your site ranked for. This comes before the actual website design because text is still the king when it comes to getting a ranking. It is true that video is now important, but not quite as important as the words used on the pages and in the code.
'Keyword' really means key phrase, because single word phrases like 'builder', 'solicitor', 'coffee' and too general to be useful. Longer key phrases are what are needed as these specify a product better.
The reason single words are not useful is that they are used in titles of documents listed in Google with all sorts of references. For example, 'coffee' might relate to 'coffee mugs', ' coffee shops', 'ground coffee', 'Arabica coffee', and so on. Not to mention coffee coloured paint or wallpaper.
We use a variety of tools to find the best keywords, and concentrate on those that attract a lot of buyers interested in your products or services. These are placed in the articles on relevant pages in your website when these are created. But the keywords come first, and are more important than the actual design.
Our aim is to get your site ranked for as many relevant keywords that attract a good number of searches each month. The focus of this research will depend whether you are seeking a local ranking for keywords like 'Building Repairs London', or nationwide rankings for terms like 'financial accounting recruitment', or even global rankings.
Once this list of keywords has been compiled, we are ready to get the text written for the pages, or to edit your own text to make them keyword rich, or just to adjust the tags.
What is meant by keyword rich? Well, if a page is supposed to be about 'Building Repairs London', then that phrase should occur enough on the page for the Google Bot to recognise that this is what the page is about.
The main keyword for a page, such as 'Building Repairs London', should account for 1-2% of all the words on the page. There should be a secondary keyword which should be used about 0.5-1% of the words, but definitely less frequently than the main keyword. In this case it could be 'House Extensions London', for example. Putting the same keyword in the article more than this will appear unnatural and will not be liked by the search engines.
However, these ratios are not so important if the article is written naturally. But 'keyword stuffing' an article is now counter-productive for rankings. We can advise on all these aspects of your site.
